Albania is very different from any European country I could think of. It is full of contrasts. There are a lot of things that would attract your attention as a visitor. Like for example the amount of Mercedes cars driving around. Albania is one of the poorest countries in Europe but everyone drives a Mercedes. Another thing you might notice, is the amount of bunkers. They are everywhere. This is a historical heritage from Hoxha times.
Most of Albanian houses do not have addresses. If you would like to order pizza, you would have to explain the driver that your house is in the same building with a coffee place that is close to a school which is 5 minutes away from the main boulevard.
I am a foreigner myself, living in Albania. I love this country because of these funny things. People are very friendly; to foreigners especially. When I came here for the first time, all my husband's family (including aunts and uncles with their wives and husbands) came to meet me at the airport from a town that is 200 km away.
The Albanian nature is amazing. It seems they've got everything in here: 2 beautiful seas, amazing mountains, rivers, lakes and what not! If you go to the Albanian Alps, you would be amazed by the breathtaking landscapes. The Albanian Rivera is full of little pristine beaches surrounded by mountains.
Food and climate are another great things about Albania. Everything grows here: pomegranates, mandarins, olives, cherries, etc. The way the cook food is great as well. Albanian cuisine is for sure the best out the ones on the Balkans
Albanian customs: drinking coffee, drinking coffee and drinking coffee again:)
