Perforate basically means to punch holes into something for whatever purpose, usually to tear it. So for example, while I was watching a war history documentary it said the soldier stabbed the sides of the window in an attempt to sneak in quietly. He perforated the window so it then broke and fell into his arms.

It is more often than not referring to a small hole or holes. As in : you've gotten a small perforation into your ear drum. There are perforations for the duration of the bucket .. So it could no longer keep any water. And so forth. Good good fortune !

You know that dotted line on your notebook paper that helps you to tear out a page? That is a perforation.
