The United Nations Charter is a US treaty legally-binding on all UN member nations:

"The Security Council shall determine the existence of any threat to the peace, breach of the peace, or act of aggression and shall make recommendations, or decide what measures shall be taken in accordance with Articles 41 and 42, to maintain or restore international peace and security."

    Link - http://www.un.org/en/documents/charter/chapter7.sh...

Furthermore, the US Constitution states that US treaties become US law:

"This Constitution, and the Laws of the United States which shall be made in Pursuance thereof; and all Treaties made, or which shall be made, under the Authority of the United States, shall be the supreme Law of the Land"

    Link - http://www.usconstitution.net/xconst_A6.html

So the only way the US is going to war with Iran is as part of a UN-mandated multinational military coalition to enforce international law on Iran.

Even then, the problem with Iran is its illegal nuclear program.

Iran only has a handful of nuclear sites, of which only a few are critical targets:

    Link - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-119277...

So the UN only needs to order up some airstrikes to clean up this mess Iran's causing.

Is it necessary? If Iran doesn't back down, it's absolutely necessary.

Iran's theocratic regime is insanely planning to trigger an Islamic Apocalypse:

"A feature-length documentary film, produced by a top adviser to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, claims that the cataclysmic events that will usher in an era of Muslim world domination are about to begin, triggered by actions launched by Iran and its Lebanese ally, Hezbollah."

    Link - http://www.newsmax.com/KenTimmerman/Ahmadinejad-Je...

There's no denying that the US is on Iran's global hit-list:

“God willing, with the force of God behind it, we shall soon experience a world without the United States.”

    -Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“Today, the time for the fall of the satanic power of the United States has come, and the countdown to the annihilation of the emperor of power and wealth has started.”

    -Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

“Get ready for a world minus the U.S.”

    -Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

If Iran gets nukes it could literally end Western Civilization as we know it by destroying the electrical and electronic devices and infrastructure that the modern world is utterly dependent on:

    'EMP attack: Overlooked catastrophe'

    Link - http://www.wnd.com/2009/02/89476/

So unless Iran backs down and surrenders its nuclear program, the UN will have no choice but to conclude that diplomacy and sanctions have utterly failed and military action is the only option left for preventing global catastrophe.

-Iran only needs 7 nukes detonated about the world's 7 continents to bring down all of civilization as we know it.

But even 1 successful Iranian EMP attack - over Europe or Asia or North America - would collapse the globalized economy and the economies of every country on Earth.

In other words: the biggest humanitarian disaster in recorded human history.

This is the brink we're standing on because of Iran.

And it must not, cannot, be tolerate and allowed to happen.

  • The US is the most war-mongering nation on earth, so it stands to reason that if a new opportunity for a war comes along we will jump right into it. We've been having wars almost non-stop for 70 years, nothing is going to stop us now. If another war is started in Iran, it will last 10-15 years and cost a couple trillion dollars that we don't have.

We don't need it. A war in Iran would have nothing to do with American national security, and Israel can go to hell and fight its own battles if it wants, but we should not get involved in any more of their aggression.

Depends on who gets elected, romney and netanyahu are really good personal friends and he obviously is a much bigger supporter of israel than obama. With obama, i think that the iran and USA will just continue this cold war that has pretty much started if you think about it. Dealing with Iran is way too risky. Even though the United States is much more superior militarily, Iran is a tough cookie, a war with Iran, means a 12 year commitment minimum, and the american people dont want that, and we simply dont have the money or resources. On top of that if the united states or israel attacks Iran, then there will be a regional war, and then the Israelis will be in deep ****, hezbollah and hamas will run wild. Not to mention we are looking at a potential WW3 with Russia and China siding with Iran, saying they would help Iran (if you take what they say seriously). So i dont think it will happen, but if it does we are all f**ked (dont forget what will happen to oil prices).

War is expensive. We're already $16 trillion in debt and have to borrow a trillion dollars a year as it is. Where would we get the money for another war? Iraq and Afghanistan were easy compared to what fighting Iran would be like. And Iran may very well have the backing of Russia and China.

Iran's a major oil supplier. If we went to war with them, they would stop exporting oil. And oil prices all over the world would go up significantly. And when oil prices go up, a hike in gas and food prices soon follows.

Europe would not be willing to lend us a hand in the war. After what happened in Iraq and Afghanistan, Europe will sit out a war with Iran. We would be on our own.

A war with Iran is a very dumb idea.

i think the states will try to avoid it with obama, but altimately with the iranian nuclear programs and its huge fossil fuel reserves and it being hostile with the americans i feel that the war is going to happen due to the fact that nuclear arment like that in a country with that sort of relationship could cause another cold war but in a far less stable country and with so many ties to the terrioist would that iran has the USA could see that as a potential threat and there for not want to risk nuclear suicide bombers being suppied by the iranians. so in short i think that a war will happen and if it does it'll be in the next 1-2 years if it hasnt already started, the goverment has kept things secret before, who's to say that special ops hasnt already gone it to try and slow the nuclear facialities

If America needs to go to war with anyone its Israel, they are a disgrace to this planet and the main threat to world peace. Iran hasn't attacked anyone in 200 years, their not even building nuclear weapons only nuclear power where as Israel has, they have invaded another peoples territory, put up walls and separate road networks, they are patrolling the area with F16 fighters when the Palestinians only have rocks! they are tearing down homes and killing civilians, this is genocide and its all paid for with American taxpayers money, **** Iran they are not a threat.
