Think of 485 cm^3 like this:

485 cm by 1 cm by 1 cm

Now, consider the conversion from cm to dm:

10 cm = 1 dm

What we will do is replace the cm with dm:

(485 cm x 1 dm / 10 cm) by (1 cm x 1 dm / 10 cm) by (1 cm x 1 dm / 10 cm) = 0.485 dm^3
