ATF Z1 has been replaced by Honda DW1 fluid in all new and old cars. As stated before, Dexron will work as a temp until it can be replaced with DW1 or Z1 if available.

Dexron is not damaging to Honda automatic transmssions but it makes the shifting harsh. The design of Honda automatics is not the same as other transmssions - Honda transmission clutches (at least prior to 1998) were not designed to slip during shifts. That makes the frictional characteristics more important and makes Dexron less desirable.

ATF Z1 has been replaced by a synthetic - I forget what Honda calls it.
