What is the fastest growing religion in the world?

Recently I was doing a survey on the fastest growing religion in the world. When I searched this on Google most of the results were for Islam but on the first page, a website claims that Islam is not the fastest growing religion. When I opened that page, it was John Gilchrist’s website, a Christian missionary. One of the site’s author Andrew wrote that Islam is not the fastest growing religion. He proved himself to be a totally pathetic human being with it.

Then I read on Wikipedia that according to the Guinness Book of World Records, Islam is the world’s fastest-growing religion by number of conversions each year.

But many atheists who say that the Atheism are the fastest growing. One of them is my friend.

So, what is the fastest growing religion in the world?

Btw, do you more trust Wikipedia or John Gilchrist website or my Atheist friend?

    -----IN THE WORLD----

“Islam is the world’s fastest-growing religion. In 1990, 935 million people were Muslims and this figure had escalated to around 1.2 billion by 2000, meaning that around one in five people follow Islam. Although the religion began in Arabia, by 2002 80% of all believers in Islam lived outside the Arab world. In the period 1990-2000, approximately 12.5 million more people converted to Islam than to Christianity” (Guinness World Records 2003, pg 102)

You should not use wikipedia for this sort of thing.

Statistical data on conversion to and from Islam are scarce. What little information is available suggests that there is no substantial net gain or loss in the number of Muslims through conversion globally. Muslim's claim that their growth rate is 235 percent and 47 percent for Christianity. This statistic came from the Readers Digest Almanac and Yearbook 1983, and represents 235 percent increase over 50 years. Muslims always leave off the 50 year fact to make it appear they are going 235% every year

It really varies a lot between countries. Most people who state their religion is growing the fastest only look at their country and most of the increase is from migrating population rather than actual growth.

To answer the question accurately, you *must* precisely define what you mean by "fastest growing religion".

    Some example meanings:

    - largest number of conversions (Islam?)

    - largest percentage growth (neither Islam nor Christianity)

    - largest increase in number of members (Islam?)

You must also specify whether or not you include these groups as "religions":

    - atheists (you have to be careful - results in counting many religious people twice)

    - agnostics

    - all non-religious (which excludes a large percentage of the world's atheists)

Unless you specify *exactly* what you mean, you will not be able to pick which answer is the correct answer to your question.

In terms of Body Mass, I'd say Christianity is the fastest growing religion. It's definitely the most obese.

Fast growing religion, you mean like in the modern world or in the developing world? In the modern world no-religion is growing the fastest. In the developing world, Christianity is growing really fast. Islam is growing the western world because of high immigration of Muslims and because these new Muslim immigrates have a high degree of birth rate.

    Hypocrisy

    No.1 USA

    No. 2 Pakistan

    No. 3 Russia

  • It's Christianity - China being the fastest growing country.

But nice to see atheist agreeing that they are a "religion".

Atheism is not a religion so it's not that one

*The Cross -- China is not the fastest growing country. It's India

    Source(s): I'm an atheist

I'd say atheism is the fastest growing religion but it might not be on there because they don't consider it a religion.
