Can i substitute pancake syrup for maple syrup?

Recipe for slow cooker boneless ribs calls for maple syrup. How different would the recipe be if I used pancake syrup (high fructose corn syrup type)?
Update: Someone else asked the same question for a chicken recipe. I'll try it and see what happens. What could possibly go wrong using a slow cooker?
Update 2: Wow, thanks for the replies already. I'll let you know how they turn out in 6-8 hours.
Update 3: I think the syrup worked well; the ribs were very good. The recipe called for cinnamon and nutmeg. If I left out the cinnamon and nutmeg, I think the ribs would have been perfect.
