I took microbiology last year. At room temp, bacteria reproduce happily every 20 minutes. There are little bacteria critters in air, on counters, on skin, everywhere. In small numbers its normal and harmless...BUT they are doubling in number every 20 minutes! Dont think 1, 2,4,8 think 10,000 to 20,000 to 40,000...80,000...160,000. It hurts, but you gotta throw it out! Not worth the 5-8 bucks versus extreme risk of spending the day hugging the toilet.
Someone in my house went to the cellar freezer and snuck ice cream, not shutting the door tight. 3 days later I discovered the 1/2 cow I bought all thawed and 75 pounds of burger, roasts, etc were all thawed and dripping on floor. No smell yet, but it was thawed, and at room temp. I had to ditch it all. I know too much about bacteria and room temp. meat.
My teen sons punnishment? Im serving only vegetarian meals until christmas.
