    Ashton,

in addition to the 80,000 square miles and 9 million people the TVA brings to the regions to the most of Tennessee and parts of Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina and Virginia ~ there is also an environmental consideration that should be explored for your paper. One of the things TVA did for farmers was how to improve crop yields ~ the soil in this vast region had been depleted due to the over cropping of the same crops year in and year out.

You can read more here and I would suggest you look at the link and pay attention to the decades listing per paragraph beginning in the 1930s: http://www.tva.com/abouttva/history.htm

    I hope this helps,

    Gerry
