I don't understand how it's "dumb" to have to do a literary analysis on a Non-fiction book. The only difference between fiction and non-fiction is that the events and aspects of one are completely made up while the other have, to some extent, happened. The author must use literary elements and techniques to keep the reader engaged. If anything, essays on non-fiction books can be quite simple and a learning experience if you know enough about the author. All you need to do is analyze the plot, how the author develops it and how he/she uses literary techniques to get this across. The link below will probably be of much help to you. Don't BS it as this is a skill you're going to need through-out the course of your educational career. Hope this helps.
