Is Mel Gibson considered to be Australian or American?

I don't understand which. He was born in America, went to Australia at 12, and now lives back in the US. As far as I am aware, all of his family still live in Australia. Which does he consider himself to be?

    Australian through and through.

Living and working in the USA doesn't change your Nationality

Legally he's American but I don't think you can go by just where he was born. He grew up in Australia, went to school in Australia, lived there full-time until the late nineties and still has most of his family there. He considers himself Australian.

If Mel Gibson was born in the United States hes a US citizen which would consider him an American.
