How does pan frying affect the flavour of my marinated steak as opposed to charcoal grilling?

I've been perfecting a carne asada recipe I found on line for some time now, and have always fired up the grill for it. I don't have any charcoal at the moment; so I've decided to use a different cooking method. If I pan fry, should I use cast iron or stainless? Should I broil the meat?
