Atheists: Can you explain to me why I don't like olives, but olive oil is my oil of choice for cooking?

I always use extra virgin olive oil for sauteing and pan frying.

I don't like any kind of olives though.

How do you explain that?

Update:

@Vincent: No, you may not. But thank you for asking permission before doing so.

Update 2:

@Torgo: That's crazy talk, my cooking always turns out delicious. It wouldn't if I used plain old vegetable oil.

20% of olive by weight is oil.

Can I suggest you have an issue with the remaining 80% of the fruit?

  • Olive oil tastes nothing like Olives.

It's the same way raw cheese to me is disgusting but cooked cheese on Lasagne and Pizza is my favourite. The taste changes greatly.

Olive, the flavour of Olives will put you off, but the Olive Oil which tastes nothing like olives you're willing to cook with.

You aren't supposed to use extra virgin olive oil for cooking. It smokes at too low of a temperature. Use it for salad dressing, marinade, and other flavoring purposes.

I don't like mushrooms, but I like to cook with cream of mushroom soup. Life's funny that way.

I don't like tomatoes, but love tomato sauce. It's the acid in the fruit that I don't like, it's neutralized in the sauce.

They taste different. I don't see the issue with differing preferences for different foods.
