Becoming an exchange student?

I'm in high school but would like to participate in an exchange student program in central america, preferably in Guatemala. Is this possible? There dont seem to be any exchange programs focused in Guatemala....

For a great and safe program, check out YFU. www.yfu-usa.org. They've been sending high school students abroad for more than 60 years, and they are one of the only programs accredited by CSIET: The Council on Standards for International Educational Travel (www.csiet.org) for both long-term and short-term exchanges. They also have lots of scholarship opportunities - almost 300 each summer. You can also get your parents on board by trying to host a YFU international student this school year - it will earn you a discount on a program if you don't win one of the scholarships. Good luck! CSIET has a program finder feature, and no programs offer an exchange to Guatemala, but there are service trips to Guatemala offered by some other agencies -- I just can't vouch for their safety records. Be sure to ask! Put in search terms "service trip to guatemala" and some options will come up.
