I agree with you. People understand physical pain, but the dynamics of emotional pain are so complex that there's never going to be someone who completely understands. Physical wounds heal, emotional trauma can last forever.
The old saying "sticks and stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me" doesn't really correlate with the realities of human psychology. Words can drive people to a plethora of disorders (engaging in self-harm, depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, eating disorders, the list goes on and on). I feel like emotional pain would sooner cause someone to commit suicide than physical pain.
