how to take off the transmission filter pan on an 1984 s10 pickup?

im trying to change out the transmission filter but the exhaust and a big metal guard is in the way . how do i change the the pan?

    loosen the exhaust hangers and see if it will drop down far enough to get the pan off !

    drop the exhaust to get to the pan i have a 1998 gmc sonoma same as your s-10
