Semantics, firstly you gotta understand hermeneutics and exegesis (google it)
Now onto the simple point.
You're confused because the text is from a different culture. Don't think that the english version is the original text.
So you have to try and study and research who was the speaker, audience and how they both understood it. not how YOU understand it.
the simple concept here is
we all broke God's laws.
God is LOVE
but God is also JUSTICE
thus someone has to pay - Justice
but it doesn't nescessarily have to be the person (like in our system, the wife/family can finance the payment for the damages done)
in the same manner, God took our spiritual death penalty and channeled it through Christ
as for the name issue, its more of a cultural thing.
names are important for the hebrew culture/people and thats what you gotta study to understand the significance of names. because in that culture, your name is YOU.. not just something people call you by, it is your title, your representation. whatever follows your name, is your definition.
it will take long to explain so just google it.
shortest simplification would be. Name = You , if your name is dishonored, you are dishonored,
if you are a taboo, your name is taboo. if you are royalty, your name is royalty.
so whatever you are, it is carried in your name.
your authority "in the name of ___"
this is how the spiritual realm works, while in the physical material realm, we require, signatures/id's affidavits and documents. in the spiritual realm, the name is your signature kind of.
you have a debt you need to get paid: through your father you are saved, through the check he signed, through his signature, through his NAME.
