How do you hold your breath under water for a long time?

I can't hold my breath under water very long,so I would love to know.Thank You.

    in my swim team we would hold our breath for a three second count then advance to a 5...7...9...and so on. for beginners, you need to take 3 very deep breaths but try and stay relaxed. then go under water and hold for short periods of time until you feel your lungs can last longer. after a couple tries should be able to last at least 15 to 30 sec.!

    and remember to slowly let out air when underwater through your nose.

    it takes pressure off your lungs.

    do lot of breathing exercises and every time u try to hold ur breath under water time ur self
