Difference Between Record Label and Record Company?

For example say if a singer is signed to Columbia Records which is owned by Sony Music, which is a record company, which one do they release their records through Columbia or Sony?

Also on itunes or amazon I always see this sort of thing when purchasing a mp3 "Universal Motown Records, a division of UMG Recordings, Inc." or "2012 Simco Limited under exclusive license to Sony Music Entertainment UK Limited" what does this mean?

Thanks in Advance

One and the same - just different terminology.

A record label is a company who produce records, and offer record deals, for example Sony or DCG.A record company may have multiple labels. It's possible but not likely you can own one.

One organization would very own countless labels. they are like individual manufacturers that incorporate a definite variety of track. A label could be owned by using specific people interior the checklist organization. The label is composed of all of the criminal and copyrights for their information. Or a checklist label and organization would the two be the comparable. wish that makes a touch sense. it fairly is the suitable i will declare. think of of it like a "make" of motor vehicle, and their "fashions."
