how to record with dvd player?

ok i have a dvd/vcr player and i want to record ps3 gameplay and i figured out how to get my ps3 to show on the screen through it i just need to figure out how to record and idk about this but the record button is on the vcr side

    VCR's only accept 480i video so you must make your PS3 down-grade the video to this lowest possible quality.

    And VCR's record at 280 lines of video so the play-back will be sub-standard.

    What you really want is something like the Hauppague Gaming Edition PVR:

    you can't record on a DVD PLAYER you need a DVD recorder or writer, you can use the VCR to do it
