Can I remove my fuse for the all wheel drive on my 2001 ford explorer and improve gas mileage?
without hurting something

No, you'll still have the drag of the gearset to contend with. I've had 2WD and 4WD Explorers, and the difference is about 4 MPG.

You can remove the fuse but it wont do squat to improve mileage. A For Sale sign then putting the proceeds toward a more reasonable car will improve the mileage greatly.

The 4x4 mil light will turn on but wont improve the mileage.
