Why do liberals think their so "progressive"?

This is based on the answers to Conservative FTW!'s question. I noticed a lot of liberals saying that if liberalism ceased in America we would somehow be in the 1800s again. Don't they know that it is the free market that has created the most progress, innovations, and opportunities in life and not restricitive big government socialism. They also seem to think we hate minorities. This is not true. Everyone would get equal rights, just not special rights. The media would also be more objective if it was not politically correct and liberally owned. It is the liberal social practices based on feelings rather than responsibility that have led to the corruptness of this nation

Where do liberals get this nonsense from?

    You couldn't possibly be more mistaken

    First of all the only ppl operating in a true free market economy are participants in illegal businesses

    Where do want to begin ?

    Big Government underwriting the cost of the Transcontinental Rail Road

    The Homestead Act of 1863 that included provisions for public education land land grant colleges

    How about all of the safe food and drugs laws that were accidentally the result of the socialist treatise by Upton Sinclair

    How about evil socialist safety net that FDR stuck under Wall Street so that your investments and your money in the bank would be safe

    The TVA

    All of the dams and hydroelectric plant that were built by the evil big socialist government and paid for by many people that never derived any personal benefits from them

    Cleaner air

    Cleaner water

    Safer cars

    Safer work place

    The GI Bill

    The CDC

    WIC

    Public hospitals

    Commercial Airports

    The US military paying for the technological R& D that private businesses would benefit from

    Student loan

    FHA

    Crop subsidies

    I could do these all day long But you get the point

    Making paper riches (ex. derivatives) is just a number on a piece of paper that can disappear in a day. Making something from our resources is wealth. Conservatives seem to think the free market will solve everything even social issues. Liberals think that your policies hurt the middle class and poor which includes minorities. The racist language of minority blame doesn't help you much either.

    With Liberals gone the plutocracy would be complete. This is very backwards. Look up how we walked away from the American Way, also called The American System that worked so well for 200 years. Nonsense is ignoring the corporate take over of your government.

    They're only "progressive" because they think they can bring the world to a sort of Utopia. A world where everyone can be happy and no one has any more than any other person. Notice the trend here? Yes, that is communism.

    While everyone would love a world without conflict and not having to work to provide for yourself, family and those that can't help themselves, it's just impossible at this stage in human evolution. You can't think hundreds of years ahead and expect to be able to make those changes now.

    Hence why [most] Democratic leadership actually puts countries steps back (though the idiot Dems claim Republicans do)

    you mean "they are so progressive"?

    Liberal equal progressive, which mean open to new ideas and approaches. That is the basis of being Liberal.

    Conservatism is the opposite. I don't think there is anything wrong with you wanting to go back to the 1800's, as long as you don't force us to come with you! Good journey!

    Here's some real nonsense (the truth is a joke)...

    “Liberalism” simply refers to freedom and equality -- which if both exist to great measure in a standing society, a liberal may not be a progressive who seeks change. Notably, classic liberal freedom missions are susceptible to hijacking by radical fringe factions who rob for self-serving, selfish gains that actually contravene societal liberty and equity.

    A “progressive” can arise in either a liberal or a conservative society. A progressive inherently seeks change from the status quo due to some societal complaint. Progressivism, to be frank, is generally viewed as a liberalized philosophy -- since in some way attacking the (whether conservative or liberal styled) status quo.

    “Conservatism” simply refers to an organized disavowal to adopt or incorporate either constructive or destructive change of practice or structure within a prevailing society. Notably, communication skills within a conservative environment suffer terrifically under collective method of dismissive listening.

    “The Democratic Party” is an exclusive US richclass political party.

    “The Republican Party” is an exclusive US richclass political party.

    The first two guys who answered your question were picking fly specks out of the pepper. In doing so, they reached the upper limit of their knowledge. Liberals want people to be dependent on big government. That's how they get more votes. We need to put an end to their scam. (See Below)

    Scary Obituary

    In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh ,

    had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior:

    "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent

    form of government.

    A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can

    vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury.

    From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the

    most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally

    collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

    "The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has

    been about 200 years.

    During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

    From bondage to spiritual faith;

    From spiritual faith to great courage;

    From courage to liberty;

    From liberty to abundance;

    From abundance to complacency;

    From complacency to apathy;

    From apathy to dependence;

    From dependence back into bondage."

    The Obituary follows:

    Born 1776, Died 2012

    It doesn't hurt to read this several times.

    Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul , Minnesota ,

    points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

    Number of States won by: Obama: 19 McCain: 29

    Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 McCain: 2,427,000

    Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million McCain: 143 million

    Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 McCain: 2.1

    Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory McCain won was

    mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

    Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income

    tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

    Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the

    "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy,

    with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached

    the "governmental dependency" phase.

    If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal

    invaders called illegal's - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the

    USA in fewer than five years.

    If you are in favor of this, then by all means, delete this message.

    If you are not, then pass this along to help everyone realize just how much is at

    stake, knowing that apathy is the greatest danger to our freedom..

    This is truly scary!

    Of course we are not a democracy, we are a Constitutional Republic .

    Someone should point this out to Obama.

    Of course we know he and too many others pay little attention to The Constitution.

    There couldn't be more at stake than on Nov 2012.

    If you are as concerned as I am please pass this along.

    Much like when a strip club uses the term "Gentlemen" in their name.
