sorry for it being in 2 parts but i wouldnt fit in one i was trying to install sun java on ubuntu and when i tried this is what happened

    sha256sum mismatch jdk-7u3-linux-i586.tar.gz

    This line means that after the download ubuntu did a computation to see if the file was accurate and not corrupted. The error means that the file was corrupted somehow.

    I would first try to install to install openjdk-7 again. Be sure that you are installing the correct version 32 or 64 bit. the lib (libraries) should be installed automatically.

    If it fails again I would try 2 things:

    If you have Synaptic installed have it fix broken package which you can find near the end of the first link : How to fix broken packages.

    Or Open a terminal and type the command :

    sudo apt-get install -f

    The terminal command will try to install any broken packages. It might take more than one effort to completely fix all broken packages.

    I assume that your system is up to date with all required packages.

    If this does not work we need to know the error messages that come up in any attempt.
