Is there some magic genie who assigns gas stations, Dunkin Donuts, and Dairy Queens to Indian families?

Indians live in huge extended families of 300 people and they pool money and employ relatives to cut costs

And 7-11's. And yes, it is the hard work and long hours Genie. Typical Americans think the work day ends after 8 hours of work and can't understand why businesses go bankrupt when they put in their eight and try to hire people to run these type businesses the rest of the time. Absentee ownership does not work when you have a new business - all hiring someone does is remove cash flow from the business (salary, etc.) and reduce the overall incentive to make the thing successful (the manager can always walk away and get another job, the owner usually has their life savings or a good chunk thereof in the business). This is why banks want new business owners to put up 25 - 30% of the costs of opening a business out of pocket - having your own money in the game increases the incentive to make it work.
