What would you need for a Desktop?
What's the difference between a laptop and a desktop setup?

Laptops and desktops work about the same these days. They have the same features and equipment on them, but they are smaller and more compact on laptops, so laptops are harder and more expensive to fix if anything goes wrong.
Laptops are more expensive, feature for feature. They are portable but a lot of my friends who use them never actually take them anywhere. In fact some laptops are so big and bulky and heavy you can't really carry them around that well.
Desktops have more room in them so they have more airflow so they cool better. So they last longer. They have room for multiple hard drives inside so you can have more than one if you want. And the word 'desktop' has become kind of a misnomer because almost all of them are upright these days and you put them on the floor so they don't take up space on the desk.

A laptop is a smaller computer usually light and portable running on battery. A desktop is quite big usually, and often better for gaming or office use.
In a desktop you are able to change everything inside it, from the graphics card, motherboard, ram and processor easily, while you do not tend to do this on a laptop. It is practically impossible to change the graphics card on a laptop.

Laptop is a small portable computer with most things built-in. Consumes little power, so they can run for hours with a small battery. Most parts are proprietary, can't upgrade motherboard, CPU, graphic chips, etc. Expansion slots are either nonexistent or slow. Their low power and small size makes them absolutely inferior to desktop PCs in performance and hardware upgrades.
Some desktops are in reality non-portable laptops, like most Macs, Slim PCs, All-in-one PCs, etc. Some laptops are quite fast and featured, because they're also large and heavy they're usually called "mobile workstation"
Desktop PCs are upgradable (especially if they're DIY, or servers), can hold more than 1 internal hard drive, have 1 or more expansion slots, and can use fast and power-hungry cards and CPUs, for example, server CPUs, two $150+ videocards, etc. For example, fastest video cards use one or two extra power connectors!

A notebook is a portable computer, whereas a desktop is a normal computer. You purchase a notebook complete. You can purchase a desktop computer complete, but you can also build one yourself. What you would need for building your own computer is the following:
- Computer case
- RAM (memory)
- Hard drive
- Optionally a disc drive
- An operating system, such as Microsoft Windows for example.

Laptops are portable, desktops are more powerful especially for gaming.
