If there is an all out nuclear war, how long will bombing last?

I think most people assume things would all be over in one day, but is this necessarily the case?

Depends on whether they are tactical strikes used to damage only military or non-human resources, or strategic strikes meant to level cities and exterminate people.

Strategic - It would be over in a matter of days if not hours. The goal here is to obliterate the enemy and their means to exist and counter strike anymore.

Tactical - Could last some time. There are battle assessments, new targets and objectives, etc. etc.

Most the tactical nuclear weapons would be launch within 10-30 minute window, but only around 1/5- 1/2 of the population in those countries would die since lot of people live spread out and some missiles would be destroyed on the ground.

Nuclear bombers would take hours to get to there targets, and nuclear subs maybe able to last 6months- 1 year without surfacing.

You assume wrongly that if the US had no longer entered the conflict, the Axis powers might have won. the US entered overdue, least confusing after the eastern bombed Pearl Harbour. So previous to that party, the conflict become as quickly as between Germany and Italy, and England, Scotland, France, Belgium, and the different eu countries, plus Russia and Canada. that they have been properly as a thank you to effectual formerly than america entered. Now, as on your hypothetical question approximately what might have befell? doubtless there could have been a Fascist government for a jointly as, even with the shown fact that i'm confident it could have been overthrown at last and the conquered international places might have restored their democratic regimes. confusing to tell what Russia might have performed, as i'm no longer remarkable at predicting the Cyrillic innovations. The incredibly alluring section might have been what might have befell to the Fascist government in Canada. might america have then joined in combat in opposition to the Nazi regime that had moved into North america? especially. besides, this is my wager.

It shouldn't take more than a few hours for the major countries to destroy each other. The survivors (if there are any) will go on fighting for years.

well if you don't count the ICBM rockets launched from under ground silos it would take the bombers at least two hours to fly from there fail safe point to there targets .
