Why do Americans complain about their government but never take any action?

What happened to the America that didn't take crap from anyone? You guys fought off the British when you got sick of their policies. I'm not saying you have to resort to too much violence, but you can at least use your right to peacefully assemble and hassle politicians if front of your state and national capital buildings.

Update:

The Tea party is a load of bull, its just the Right's version of Communism.

Since WWII this country has been on a downward spiral of apathy and divisiveness. The extreme Left and Right have beaten the Middle into submission. The Liberals have convinced us that saying or doing anything that might offend someone is evil, and the Conservatives have us too worried about religious issues to care about the real problems. Our Government keeps debating moral issues (steroids in sports, abortion, gay rights, contraception, prayer in schools, etc..) while lining their own pockets and the pockets of their election supporters. This keeps the masses distracted from what they are really doing, bankrupting our county.

Play Assassins Creed 3. Pretty much sums up why the our country is the way it is. Great quote from the game: "The people never have the power, only the illusion of it. And here is the real secret: they don't want it. The responsibility is too great to bear. It's why they are so quick to fall in line as soon as someone else takes charge. They want to be told what to do. They yearn for it. Little wonder that, since all mankind was built to serve."

Well, the conservatives all signed "pledges" given to them by means of very, very severe proper wing contributors of the tea occasion mentioning "you're going to under no circumstances carry taxes, you're going to not ever compromise", and so forth. So they have got no room to compromise at all on whatever so that the federal government is at a stalemate. If they are trying to compromise on some thing they get voted out like Richard Luger the 36 year Republican from Massachussets or Oklahoma I cannot don't forget which state. The republican tea occasion man that beat him stated to the information media he's going to never compromise on anything. This literally bowled over the information media. He recounted either the democrats grew to become republican or else. For this reason their is a stalemate. The republicans have no bargaining power. For example the country wants to raise revenues however the republicans outlaw any tax expand on the rich preferring instead to tax the middle classification, teachers and firefighters and policemen. It is loopy.

Americans have a chance to voice their concerns every 4 years ... If you are dissatisfied you can vote your politicians out of office ... It's called Democracy ... majority rules of course, so you may not necessarily get your choice ... !

What can we do? we try to protest and the media disregards us. We tried voting, but it seems one is just as bad as the other. If we rioted, they would waste no time shooting us. What can we do?
