Radeon HD 6870 idle temperature spikes.?

I should start off by saying that I know very little about computers, so assume you're talking to a newb, please.

My Graphics card is randomly getting heat spikes while running Idle. I've played a bit of BF03 and it ran at normal temps (80c) with no temp spikes.

But without any intensive programs running, I'm running at 46c and will occasionally shoot up to 58+ for a second or two, then back again.

Until recently, my GPU ran at around 36-38c idle. I'm not sure what's wrong. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

Clean the fan with compressed air. You may have to have some one go inside and put new thermal grease on the heat sinks... Hey, I enjoyed your question, I have worked as a technician most of my life, I hope I have helped you...

    Good luck...

The GPU fan is certainly slightly dirty, blow dry air on it and see if any difference
