Those Flash games are created with Adobe Flash, a program that costs $100's. Not to mention it takes days/weeks/months to make decent games using Flash. Unless you plan on learning a whole coding language like C++ the best option for you is Game Maker. Game maker is great once you know how to use it professionally and takes the least amount of time. Game creation is not simple, and planning on making a game like mario in a day is unrealistic. Just a heads up.

Also Scratch is a **** program, don't ever use Scratch.

Here, we're talking ActionScript 3.0 or something similar for Flash. They are not "game making programs", they're full-fledged programming languages.

Other alternatives might be Python and the library Pygame (http://www.python.org/ , http://www.pygame.org)/
