What is the meaning of the word 'Underachiever'?

If a Person was average in his studies,is it appropriated to call him underachiever

    - a student who performs less well in school than would be expected on the basis of abilities indicated by intelligence and aptitude tests, etc.

    - a person or thing that performs below expectations.

    It would only be appropriate to call them an underachiever if they gained average grades but was capable of getting far better results. Underachieving is linked to potential....if a person has a lot of potential but they don't try to use that are are happy being average, then they are underachieving.

  • An underachiever is lazy and does not accomplish what he/she is capable of.

    If you work as hard as you can, and the result is an average grade, you are not an underachiever. If you work the absolute minimum necessary, and the result is an average grade, you are an underachiever.

    An underachiever is a person and especially a student who fails to achieve his or her potential or does not do as well as expected.

    So if this student is very smart but isn't really trying, just letting themselves get average on purpose, yes, they are an underachiever.
