How can I get the Eye of Magnus quests to work?

I have found the Eye of Magnus and talked to the Auger, but they won't send me to find the Staff of Magnus. I've checked the GameFAQs site for Skyrim, but it hasn't been useful. Can someone help me, please?

You need to go and talk to the guy in the library.

The library is across from the archmage chambers
