why did this happen? i need help with a bio question/?

im reading the immortal life of henrietta lacks, i need to do a book report on this book. this is a great book, but i didn't pick up one of the answers after im done reading, the question is: why did millions of dollars worth of research need to be discarded for HeLa cells???

    The problem was the HeLa cells grow so much better and faster than normal tissues being propogated in tissue culture that a lot of research that was supposed to be conducted with normal tissues were actually performed with HeLa cells that had accidentally been introduced into the containers. At some point, the contamination was detected and caused the discarding of many research projects.
