Best bet is a contractor job or work as a Navy Civilian for one of the Warfare Centers.

NAWC - Naval Air Warfare Center (Weapons Division and Aircraft Division)

NSWC - Naval Surface Warfare Center

NUWC - Naval Undersea Warfare Center

SPAWAR - Naval Space Warfare Center

If you worked on specific platforms or equipment on active duty, you can use that time to identify the contractors supporting those systems and apply. USE YOUR CONTACTS IN THE NAVY. There is no "weapons designer" job. They are engineering jobs. Starting out after 6-8 years in the Navy, a Secret or higher clearance, an engineering degree - about $60-80,000/year now.

Source(s): Army officer, started working for NAWC AD after graduation as a Navy civilian, currently a contractor.
