Ohio Amish country two hours south of Cleveland in Holmes County.
Ohio State Fair in Columbus in early August.
King's Island near Dayton.
Hardwood ziplines in Mohican region (Tree Frog Canopy Tours) and in the Hocking Hills.
U.S. Air Force National Museum and the Dayton Aviation Heritage National Historical Park, both in Dayton.
Lake Erie beaches and Lake Erie islands.
Cleveland and Cincinnati zoos also are very good.
The Wilds in Zanesville (also a zipline).
The Indians and Reds baseball games.
Blossom Music Center (Blossom Music Festival and livenation.com), a great summer music venue in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park.
Canoeing on the Mohican River.
Biking all over Ohio, but especially in state parks.
Downtown Cleveland attractions such as the Rock Hall, U.S.S. Cod, Steamship Mather and West Side Market. The Cleveland Museum of Art is one of the nation's best and has free admission.
Music venues in various cities, such as the Beachland Ballroom and Wilbert's in Cleveland.
Check visitors' bureaus for each county for fairs and other events. Where do you live?
Check out the AAA Ohio travel guide or tripadvisor.com for attractions ("things to do") in various cities and perhaps post your question in TA forums for cities within day trip distance of where you live.
BOL for a great summer!

Sounds like you have a good plan in place. It also sounds like you aren't afraid to try new things.
If you are going to Ohio, or anywhere in the US, and fancy the unusual and less typical stuff to do, you can try here: http://www.roadsideamerica.com/
In the upper right corner, just choose a city, a state & search. I use this a lot when I travel.
Like weird and/or scary? Try this site: http://www.weirdus.com/states/ohio/index.php
As someone who frequents OH to visit family, I subscribe to several online Ohio newsletters.
You can go to Visit Ohio websites, and there, you will find lots of things, like calendars of events, historical places, etc.
You can check out Cleveland, here: http://www.cleveland.com/entertainment/
Whether you just want to hang out at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, ride crazy stuff at amusement parks, or look for Bigfoot, you can do it in Ohio, the Buckeye State.
Hope this helps.
