Why is it offensive and racist to shorten Pakistani to P**i?

Yet other countries shorten is acceptable eg Scottish is shortened to Scot and Afghanistani is shortened to Afghani.

Why is P**i racist but Afghani isn't?

All words are initially value-neutral. But people have usually and continually used "Paki" in a negative sense, along with "shortened" terms like "Jap" and "Chink"... So, if you geniunely want to use it positively (I wonder if you do, and since I don't know you I can only wonder), but can't, look to the people who used the shorted terms in extremely negative ways. Plus, who coined the term "Scot"? Someone who was Scottish!

Edit: At least three people have. Sound like what you really mean is "so far no one has answered my question in the way I want them to." (You know, like a whole bunch of people telling you "2 + 2 = 4" and you want to hear it's 5.)

Because Pakistani immigrants refuse to assimilate, and commit heinous crimes which are covered up by the media. Remember how last summer black rioters were called "youths"? Any time a Pakistani immigrant commits a crime, he is called an "Asian". This is because Chinese, Koreans and Japanese are what springs to mind when people hear the word "Asian". Bottom line, if the Pakistani immigrants are anti-social, any word that is used to refer to them will become tainted with their anti-social behavior.
