The Oxford English Dictionary defines racism as the “belief that all members of each race possess characteristics, abilities, or qualities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races” and the expression of such prejudice...

So by saying "Asians are so smart", "Blacks are so athletic" etc, you are still placing preconceived notions upon a single person or group of people based on their race/ culture...

So therefore, it is technically prejudice, even if you are not meaning it in a bad way

It's still racist. Stereotyping someone by their race is still racism.
