Pi is transcendental, which means that it is an infinite, nonrepeating fractional number. It is impossible to write the whole thing down, or even to write down a simple polynomial formula that has pi as an answer.

However, there is a simple formula you can use to calculate π:

π = 4/1 - 4/3 + 4/5 - 4/7 + 4/9 - …

You can use this formula to get as close as you want—it will just take a long time. There another, slightly more complicated, formula that converges quite a bit faster.

π = 3 + 4/(2×3×4) - 4/(4×5×6) + 4/(6×7×8) - 4/(8×9×10) + …

Either one will give you the exact number if you take it out to infinity.

You can also visit one of the many web sites that lists the digits of pi: http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Math/Recreations/Speci...

Well, what pi is, is the amount of times longer the circumference of a circle is compared to the diameter of that circle. It is usually abbreviated 3.14, but it goes on forever. If you divide the Circumferance by the diameter of a circle, you will get pi. But, here is the first few digits of pi... It's an irrational number, it goes on indefinitely .
