He has every right to be angry, i mean, it's a single mum and son - the offenders must have been particularly petty. But you also have every right to be angry too, racism is not a nice thing.

However, do not leave him, he is letting off steam - also, it is just a word. Sticks and stones and blah blah. Both of you should leave the situation behind you. If he persists (for no reason) then their is an issue

DISRESPECTFUL AND WRONG? SORRY, he does not owe the thief ANY respect, and he is 100% RIGHT in saying this guy IS a ******. Would you get upset if he made a derogatory comment about a white thief? I'm white - I could care less if people talk bad about whites. I'm German - people assume we all are Nazis - whatever, I don't care, why should I care what other people think or say. You are not overreacting by feeling you don't want to spend all (or a lot of) your time with someone who makes generalisations about your race, or at least your family.

He is mad at the robbery and his action was a knee jerk reaction. Point out that there are muggings and beating by white and Asian people as well and that he should not make a generalisation about any group of people. Let it go this time and give him a chance to put it right but should he should such tendencies again then you should be very wary of him. It could turn on you at a time when you perhaps have an argument, as couples do, and this could then turn very nasty.

Yahh I think most people harbor racial prejudices even if they don't realize it. Racism is such a big part of U.S. history and still permeates society and people's thinking. And what he said was really messed up. So he's obviously overtly racist and should never use that word. If you already feel like breaking up with him, maybe you should. I would feel really uncomfortable about it as well and maybe you should not date a guy who just overtly looks down on African Americans.

Also for all those people who think African Americans shouldn't be using the word "N-----" to each other...Let's just say it has a totally different meaning when a non-black person says that word to a black person because of its historical context of racial oppression and domination.

He's racist for that statement. If he gets upset with you and somebody in your family, he's going to call you that. Just as a guy would call a woman the "B" word when he's mad because he wants to hits them where it hurt, he'll call more black people the "N" word. I hate people like him, and I can stand a black person who'd let that slide.

No, he isn't racist because he probably slept with you already. Duh... Why would he date a mulatto if he wasn't into oil drilling? He was just angry, as I am sure you would be if the roles were reversed. Think about that for a moment, if it were you in the exact same situation. Maybe you would be so angry to say, "These crackas be robbin' my chillun' en sheaat!" Or something to that effect.
