have you ever made any surprising musical connections? one tune leads to another...?
i've just been revisiting one of my fave old school techno tunes... 'Hardcore Uproar' by Together... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0H9jQQVnU2g
which has always reminded me of the 'Clothes Show Music' in the UK... (the riff is the same)... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kAAelPf62Xs
... then just found out that that riff is from the Pet Shop Boys and this ... 'In The Night'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RbboTu63kic
another one i made a while back was the soundtrack to a kiddies science programme... 'It'll Never Work'... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BXOv52O2hA
... suddenly sussed one day that it was 'People are People' by Depeche Mode... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TZWw6pbqmfk
have you made any similar connections?
happy weekend all :)
* another one. i heard Black Sabbath very young and didn't really appreciate them... a few years later i heard Ozzy and i thought 'wow, sounds like that dude from that band....' then looked him up a lo and behold... (before internet of corse ha ha!)...

I often hear a tune that makes me think of another song... if I mention it to other people they just look at me funny. I have that happen often, but I can't think of a specific instance offhand. Although just the other day my iPod played these songs in a row.. see if you get the connection (If you don't I'll explain it):
Pocahontas - Neil Young
then... China Girl - David Bowie
followed by Lust for life - Iggy Pop
Also shortly after it played:
Hey Hey My My - Neil Young
followed by Think Tank - PIL
(A much more obvious connection between these two)
and thanks, while writing this and looking for links to provide... I discovered that PIL just made a new album...yes new.. first studio album in 20 years..comes out this month.Source(s): my iPod Hi Mark yes LTNS!

Wow, loving Hardcore Uproar. I'll just pinch that one off you :) Actually I didn't notice the riff, well done. The Depeche Mode one was a lot more obvious though.
One comes to mind...
Ladytron- Ace of Hz
Bony M- Daddy Cool
EDIT: Migh, I just come accross this one just now that you might be interested in...
Pink Project- Amama
Talking Heads- Girlfriend is Better
I did hear last week on TV Jason Derulo ripping off a song from Toto. I'm not inclined to chase it down, but way to f*** up a song Derulo.

Yeah it happens.
I was listening to the album "Night Time" by Killing Joke and the song "Eighties" had a very similiar guitar riff to "Come as you are" by Nirvana which is a newer song. Then I checked the web and saw that Killing Joke's label has actually mentioned this.
