I want to move to the USA from Northern Ireland?

It is tricky to come here, but not impossible.

Robbie had some great suggestions, but I'll expand on them.

You don't always have to be a PhD to get in. There are a number of professions that are in need over here, and as long as you have a BA in that field (or many years of experience) you could qualify - as long as you have a company to sponsor you. They will also let people in upper-management come over through company sponsorship, or if your company is based in the USA (so, work for the UK branch of an American company, and then get an inter-company transfer).

You could also come here as an international student as soon as you finish your A-levels. Your visa will be good for the length of your degree, and if you pick the right field you might find a company to sponsor you after graduation.

You could also marry an American and get residency that way. It would have to be a legitimate marriage though, because the USCIS can see right through the fake marriages.

Another way is to invest money in this country (but we're talking hundreds of thousands of dollars usually).

There is no guarantee that you will ever be able to move to America. Many people wish their whole lives trying to and have no way whatsoever.

However, you can make it easier on yourself.

1) American immigration is primarily to unite american families with overseas relatives Its not to help foreigners have a better live, live in hollywood, manhattan or get away from the bad weather in their own country.

2) Employment based visas are for the most advanced people on earth. So if you want to be able to get a work visa get the highest education possible, I would suggest a PHD in science or advanced math. (yes it sounds hard, hence its easier to get a visa)

3) Forget law, european law is useless over here, and our degrees are useless for law over there.

4) Keep playing the DV lottery but be aware you dont win a greencard. You win the only chance to apply for one, if you dont have enough money, education, skills etc or if you have a criminal record they just should "next"

It's not that hard to get residence in the US if you enter the country legally. I work with several people who are from other countries (China, Russia, Canada, UK, & Ireland) who are all US citizens now.

I would first go the US embassy in Belfast. They can help you to get started. You can also have dual citizenship (English and US). I would recommend (if you can afford it) to go to college in the USA; it is easy to get a student VISA, which will get you over here.

Wait and see what happens after the November elections. If Obama wins reelection, there won't be much of a country left to come to without a serious change somewhere, by the time you're ready to make the jump.

I`m American. This country was once great. Now its horrible. You should move to the UK. You have way more options out there. There are 47 European countries to choose from. France? Spain? Greece? Germany? Italy? Funny how you want to the states. I wanna move to the UK.
