Is it racist if I draw a black guy?

Is it racist if when I draw someone black, I shade their face? Or is that realistic?

Maybe. Maybe not. Difficult to say. Haven't seen the picture. You do know we all have shades though (you included)?

If this is legitimate concern on your part, and I'll assume it is, then it's probably not racist. I've you've picked a reasonable shade of brown, or at least didn't overdo it on the grey, I'm sure you're fine.

PS - It does speak volumes about this era of our society when people actually try not to be pricks just because somebody else has a different physical appearance. Before they didn't care. Many actually took perverse pleasure in it. A lot fewer still do.

It's a good question. If you are a different race, your could certainly get called racist for doing this. But is it true? That's the question, right? Your question speaks volumes about this era of our society.

If it looks good and it is tasteful, no one will ever call you out over it. Comic book artists get a pass. Political artists get a pass, Cartoonists get a pass, Painters get a pass - why? Because they choose a subject and interpretation that is tasteful. Art is more than drawing "what you see".
