Is Electrical Tape nonconductive and heat resistant?

If not, what example of tape is both non-conductive and heat resistant? Thanks

Generically, electrical tape is non-conductive (guaranteed to 600 volts) but not heat-resistant.

Electrical tape will soften with heat and the adhesive will melt, letting the tape go slack and unwrap. This is especially true of the cheaper tapes. Higher quality electrical tape will withstand limited heat (120 degrees F), but eventually it will soften.

Teflon is both, non-conductive and heat-resistant. Probe oven thermometers use a Teflon sleeve for insulation. Teflon has a melting point of around 600 degrees F, and is a better insulator than electrical tape.

Unfortunately, Teflon tape is not normally available, adhesive backed.

Common vinyl electrical tape is nonconductive to about 600 volts. However it is not designed for use in hotter environments because it is not designed for high temperature applications.

There are high temp insulation and high temp electrical tape available.

You need to know the temperature to which the insulating material will be exposed - and then select materials that will take the temperature. Consult your local electrical supplier for proper material.

Most places like that sell an epoxy like JB weld. In Fact, JB Weld is the one you want! It is heat resistant, and even drillable when cured!
