It's a bit scary at first, but you get used to it after a few tries.
To induce sleep paralysis, you need to lay really still for a bit. It's tricky because you can't move at all and you can't fall asleep. After a while, you should start to feel like your body is numb or vibrating. Sometimes you hear noises(The first time I had sleep paralysis, I heard a really loud banging in my ear. It scared the crap out of me! But, I tried it again and it wasn't as scary), but you just have to ignore them. Now imagine yourself floating or rolling out of your body. This is probably the hardest part, because sometimes you actually move your body and wake up. As you're trying to leave your physical body, you will probably notice that it feels like your entire body is vibrating. That tends to scare people awake, but just ignore it. If you can manage to get your spirit self out of your physical body without actually moving your real body, that's it! You're astral projecting. To get back, just concentrate on entering your body.
Remember, nothing can hurt your real body while you're projecting. It's perfectly safe. However, sometimes negative entities will try to attack you in the astral realm. If that happens, just return to your body.
PS- Before you try to astral project, imagine a bright light coming down on you and filling your room. If you have anybody else in the house, extend the light to them. This is just in case something tries to attack your body while you project. It will keep negative things away. Also, if you're religious, pray for protection before you project.
