why are there so many pharmaceutical drug commercials on national news programs?

Everytime I watch the evening national news, or any other national news programs, about 50-70% of the commercials are pharmaceutical drug commercials, with at least one of them being a perscription drug ad, which are very annoying with all the rish information. I wonder why there are so many drug commercials on tv during national news programs? Why isn't there much other variety?

The pharmaceutical industry is extremely wealthy and the people in our country is extremely drugged up. Keep 'em coming...the ultimate hustlers.

Because old people watch the news, and old people consume pharmaceutical products. It's as simple as that.
