If you know -8x – 4y = 16, then you can solve for y in that one equation.

-4y=16+8x

Then divide by -4

y=-4-2x

then, take that Y amount (-4-2x) and substitute it into this equation:

-68 x + 3y = 16

-68 x + 3(-4-2x) = 16

-68x -12 -6x = 16

-74x -12= 16

-74x = 28

Then solve for X. When you know X, put it back in the y=-4+2x. You'll get Y.
