If I buy a used car in FL, I live in NC. Will I pay sales tax in both states?

FL tax is 6% but NC is 3%, will FL let me pay the 3% for NC?

The laws vary in every state. Sometimes you pay the tax when you register, which would be in NC and sometimes you pay the tax when you buy it and show proof to the state you register it in. You just need to ask the DMVs in both states how it will work.

You pay the tax in the state you register it in, so NC.

Aee you buying from a dealer? If so ask them if they can collect or ask your local DMV what you need to do. Sometimes dealers in difference states can collect the tax for the registered state. Or if you pay the tax in one state you will either pay the difference in your state or get the difference back.

If you are an out of state buyer you'll pay sales tax based on your home address.
