Do you think John Candy would have made a great live-action Fred Flintstone? or was John Goodman great enough?

I read that the late comedic actor, John Candy, was seriously considered for the role of Fred Flintstone in the 1994 Live-Action movie, but he died before filming began, so the role went to John Goodman. Do you think John Candy would have done great as Fred Flintstone?

Update:

did John Goodman do a good enough job of playing Fred Flintstone? John Candy, do you think he could have done better or not?

John Goodman was almost born to play Fred Flintstone.

Candy's personality and even his very rotund physical appearance with his innocent, moon shaped face would have not been the Fred Flintstone all of us who grew up with the Flintstones imagined.

I'm a John Candy fan.....but not as Mssr. Flintstone.

Both Fred and Barney were perfectly cast.

Fred always had kind of a bully streak to him. I loved John Candy, I don't know if he could have pulled that off.
