Work out each number's distance from zero.

    |66 - 0| = 66

    |-96 - 0| = 96

    Then add them together: 66 + 96 = 162

In this equation, you would find the absolute value of each number, or their distances from zero. I 66 I =66

    And I -96 I =96

    66+96= 162

Therefore, 66 and -96 are 162 units apart.
