Depending on what type of question you are asking, it could have a few answers.

    1. environment= The water could become so polluted that it would become undrinkable

    2. science= It would either become a solid or liquid state

    3. sociology= If water prices go up to high and tap water becomes polluted

This is a fairly ambiguous question... Do you mean physically undrinkable (like if it is evaporated or frozen)? I assume you mean unsafe to drink, which would could happen if a chemical was present in the water above toxic levels.

contamination or stagnation are the two most frequent causes of water becoming unfit for consumption, also known as 'potable'.

Throw a dead cow in it and let it stew for a week. Give it a temperature of 2 degrees K.Add hydrochloric acid to it.
