Why were teenage girls always such bad actresses in old horror films?

Because people had more imagination back in the day. They were able to suspend disbelief better then than we can now. Now, we need 3 million dollar CG, and complain about it being "unrealistic", but when it wasn't an option, and people knew it wasn't an option - or had little exposure to cinema, they were more willing to accept the reality of what they were seeing because it was either all they had or was acceptably realistic.
